Vietnam travel guide
Historic cities, mountain country and a long coastline. Build your route by region.
Hoan Kiem Lake
Hanoi
Walk the shore of Hoan Kiem Lake in central Hanoi. The photo shows Turtle Tower on its small island, viewed from the lakeside; it is not an invitation to enter the tower. Use this as a city walk, and check access separately for nearby ticketed sites. The official Hanoi guide places the lake in the central heritage district. Keep a lakeside walk separate from Ngoc Son's ticketed island temple and Turtle Tower, seen from shore rather than entered. No current operator fee or pedestrianisation schedule was verified. Cross busy roads carefully, secure valuables and confirm the actual shore segment/entrance, weather and barriers. The historic photo is neither today's access nor a boat invitation.
Temple of Literature
Hanoi
Explore the historic Temple of Literature complex in Hanoi. The photo shows a pavilion and landscaped courtyard inside the grounds, not a view of every part of the site. Check current tickets and visitor access before going. The operator lists 08:00–17:00 daytime entry, 70,000 VND standard and 35,000 priority. Its student wording requires ID from schools in Vietnam; senior wording requires age 60 and citizen ID. Do not assume a foreign student card qualifies. Under-16s and people with disabilities are listed free; the evening programme costs separately. These undated posted terms are not next year's price. Read courtyards and stelae as education/Confucian history, not an operating university. Recheck eligibility, current hours and closure dates before paying.
Vietnamese Women's Museum
Hanoi
Explore exhibitions on women's history and traditions. The operator interprets Women in Family, Women in History and Women's Fashion, with audio in Vietnamese, English, French, Japanese and Korean and group guides by advance request. Posted hours are 08:00–17:00 Monday–Sunday at 36 Ly Thuong Kiet. The fetched page has no admission price; Wikivoyage's February 2025 figures of 40,000 VND entry/80,000 with audio are secondary historical leads, not current operator quotes. Verify entry, audio and exhibit separately, with no handling or event entitlement assumed.
Vietnam Fine Arts Museum
Hanoi
Browse Vietnamese art, lacquer and silk works. Compare a few materials or periods, such as lacquer, silk and sculpture, rather than assume the entire collection is displayed. Wikivoyage locates 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc opposite the Temple of Literature and posts 08:30–17:00, but these are secondary guide details. The fetched operator visiting page has almost no substantive text, so no current admission, audio charge or exhibition inclusion is verified. Recheck directly. The building photo is not room access; conservation spaces/events are separate, and camera/flash and step-free access need checking.
Vietnam National Museum of History
Hanoi
Explore the museum's historical collections. The undated operator page lists 40,000 VND/adult, 20,000/college or university student and 10,000/school pupil, covering two buildings: 1 Trang Tien for prehistory through the Nguyen dynasty/1945 and 216 Tran Quang Khai for the mid-19th century onward. Do not confuse it with the Military History Museum or an HCMC museum. Under-6/disability free or reduced conditions follow regulations; foreign discounts are not presumed. Posted camera photography 30,000 VND and video 400,000 VND are separate. Verify current premises/hours, eligibility and media policy. Holdings are not guaranteed displays.
Ho Chi Minh Museum
Hanoi
Explore the museum dedicated to Ho Chi Minh's life. The operator's Vietnamese page lists Tuesday–Thursday/Saturday–Sunday 08:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:30, closed Monday/Friday. This conflicts with Wikivoyage's daily mornings/11:30/16:00, so recheck the operator pattern for the intended day. Its online ticket feature is still being completed, with enquiries directed to staff; no current foreign admission was verified. Interpret its narrative of Ho Chi Minh's life critically alongside other sources. This museum is separate from mausoleum and residential relic grounds; no archive, guide, room or adjacent-memorial access is included.
Presidential Palace grounds
Hanoi
Explore the historical residential grounds; check visitor access. The relic operator posts summer 07:30–11:00/13:30–16:00 and winter 08:00–11:00/13:30–16:00, except Monday afternoon. Wikivoyage also excludes Friday afternoons and differs on summer opening: confirm the date/route rather than promise entry from either. Hanoi's 2017 account explains residences, stilt-house and pond, not permission inside the functioning palace or official rooms pictured. Grounds, museum and mausoleum are separate; obey security checks and barriers. No current ticket or combined entitlement was verified.
Tran Quoc Pagoda
Hanoi
Visit this Buddhist pagoda on a small islet in Hanoi's West Lake. Jakub Hałun's February 2024 photo is a close-up of the dragon sculpture on its roof, not a view of the full temple or lake. Look for the curled gold ornament and the red tiles beneath it. Vietnam Airlines' guide describes its halls and worship spaces; cover shoulders and knees, keep quiet, and check signs before photographing. Confirm current visitor access before going. The airline guide is interpretation, not the monastery's live permission or timetable. It describes towers, statues and worship spaces; its split visitor hours/free-entry claim need date/signage confirmation. No operator fee or ceremony timetable was independently verified. The roof-dragon close-up cannot show open halls. Cover shoulders/knees, avoid prayers and ask before pictures of people or rituals. Donations are separate from guided products, and an islet/Waze search is not permission for boats or every religious space.
West Lake
Hanoi
Explore lakeside views away from the central lake. West Lake is a larger urban waterscape distinct from Hoan Kiem. Choose a short actual shore segment rather than assume a continuous circuit. The fetched guide supplies no authoritative present path, parking, boat or rental access. Tran Quoc remains a separate religious visit. Traffic, redevelopment and weather can interrupt walking/cycling. No lakewide ticket, bathing clearance or safe boat route was verified. The photo is one view, not current visibility; keep away from private edges and check water quality/conditions before any water activity.
Hue heritage
Hue
Explore Hue's imperial heritage, beginning with the Imperial City inside the citadel. The photo shows Ngo Mon, the main gate, in 2010, not every monument in the wider heritage complex. Choose individual palace and tomb visits, and check current tickets and access before going. UNESCO's 1993 listing explains the Nguyen capital landscape, where citadel, palaces, temples and tombs are separate components. The 2010 Ngo Mon photo is one gate, not the full complex or today's restoration access. Choose a specific site before comparing single/combined tickets; no current operator tariff or combo validity was verified. Conservation descriptions are not present scaffolding/flood reports. Central-coast storms and floods need flexible transfers and obedience to closures. Guides, riverboats and performances are not assumed included; sacred-site clothing/camera rules vary.
Hoi An ancient town
Hoi An
Explore Hoi An's old trading-port streets and historic buildings. The photo shows one of the town's decorated heritage buildings, not a generic Vietnam scene. Check current ticket requirements for the specific sites you enter. The tourism authority describes a former trading port with shop-houses, assembly halls, temples and a covered bridge. Read a few buildings in detail without assuming every facade is public. The generic article does not verify current heritage-ticket price, building selection, validity or bridge access. Street walking, paid interiors, tailoring, boats and shows are distinct. Wet-season flooding may change lanes/riverside access, despite lantern photographs. Ask before entering private homes/shops or taking portraits; the card image licence does not grant other photography permissions.
Da Nang city & coast
Da Nang
Explore the central Vietnamese city and coastal setting. The official Da Nang guide separates city culture, My Khe shore, Cham sculpture and Marble Mountains. Pick an actual site rather than treat them as one ticketed outing. No current museum, lift, cave or peninsula permission/fee was verified. Promotional motorbike/langur ideas are not a licence, wildlife guarantee or safe road clearance. Follow beach flags and current sea/weather warnings; do not feed wildlife or enter protected habitat. Seasonal averages are not forecasts. Confirm the actual entrance, fees, hours and vehicle rules before travel.
Ha Long landscape
Ha Long
Explore Ha Long's limestone-islet seascape by boat. Trideep Dutta Photography's June 2016 panorama shows the city waterfront and karst islands from above; it is a landscape view, not a confirmed walking viewpoint or cruise itinerary. The official tourism guide describes cave visits, kayaking and overnight cruises, but routes differ by operator. Compare a day trip with an overnight stay, then check the departure port, inclusions, weather and cancellation terms before choosing. This historic sky is not today's forecast. The tourism guide's cruise, cave and kayak ideas are possibilities, not inclusions or proof inexperienced paddling/deep-water climbing is safe. Compare licensed vessel/route, port, lifejackets/rescue, cabins/meals/transfers, government fees and cancellation terms. No current package price or sailing slot was verified. Port storm decisions control even in normally clearer autumn weather. Ha Long, Lan Ha and Bai Tu Long itineraries differ; lived floating communities require consent. Preserve the existing panorama and land-only Waze caveat, with no camera-position walk or boat navigation established.
Sa Pa mountain country
Sa Pa
Plan mountain walks and community visits responsibly. The official Sapa guide distinguishes town, terraced-valley trekking and cultural visits; trains reach Lao Cai, with onward mountain transfer. Choose distance, gradient, guide and fitness instead of equating cable car and multi-day trek. Promotional timings are not current permits, schedules or safe roads. Fog, rain and steep paths change conditions. Obtain guide/landowner permission, pay agreed services fairly and ask before photos or entering homes/farms. No community, loom, festival, Fansipan fare or homestay opening is promised. Confirm route, insurance and weather before arranging.
Ha Giang mountain scenery
Ha Giang
Explore mountain landscapes with safe transport arrangements. The tourism guide introduces karst and mountain settlements but motorcycle rental suggestions do not establish valid foreign licence/IDP recognition or insurance. Check those first; experience or riding as a passenger does not remove crash risk. Use an actual licensed local transport plan rather than automatically recommend the Ha Giang Loop. Frontier/restricted areas may need permits; do not approach borders or leave approved roads based on scenery. Monsoon damage, fog and landslides change routes. No current vehicle/guide price, permit or safe turnaround was verified. Community photography requires consent.
Phong Nha caves
Phong Nha
Compare guided cave visits and their fitness requirements. The official Phong Nha guide separates show caves from swimming/crawling/climbing/overnight expeditions. Larger caves may have restricted/exclusive access; a park label or photo is not a permit. Its October–December inaccessibility warning is seasonal, not a current closure list. Choose the actual authorised product and check fitness, swimming/age limits, gear, emergency plan, conservation, insurance and cancellation. No current ticket, expedition slot or exclusive operator rights were independently revalidated. Do not reuse undated bus fares. This cavern photo is no permission beyond barriers or for independent flood-prone exploration.
Phu Quoc island
Phu Quoc
Plan island time around beaches and seasonal weather. The nature guide separates beaches, protected forest and small islands. A beach photo is neither reef health nor swimming/snorkelling clearance; check current flags, seas and licensed boat safety. No landing, park, rental or marine charge was verified. Do not take starfish out of water, stand on coral or feed wildlife; working farms/villages require arranged access. Island-only visa exceptions depend on passport, route and stay and do not authorise mainland travel. No eligibility determination for Moshe is supplied. Select the actual beach/operator, access and cancellation terms rather than assume resorts/reefs are public.
Nha Trang coast
Nha Trang
Explore the coastal resort region. The Nha Trang guide separates city beach, offshore trips and Cham Po Nagar heritage. A walk is not a boat package or sacred-site ticket. No current admission, landing, sailing slot or activity fee was verified. Sunny destination marketing does not guarantee safe seas during September–December rains. Confirm flags, storms, lifeguards and operator equipment/insurance. The June 2025 photo is an urban shore, not resort booking or safe water. A hired motorcycle suggestion is no licence/insurance evidence; check legal transport and worship clothing/signage separately.
Da Lat highlands
Da Lat
Explore the hill-station landscape. The official Da Lat page describes cooler highlands around Xuan Huong Lake, architecture and coffee country, often rainy May–October with chilly nights. These are patterns, not today's forecast or dry trails. Choose city/lake separately from private farms, historic buildings, waterfalls, cable cars or adventures; no common entitlement/fee is verified. Promotional trail ideas do not grant land permission. Canyoning, hiking and cycling need appropriate guides, gear, fitness, insurance and obedience to closures. No farm tasting, roastery, golf slot or accommodation is booked. Recheck direct terms and connections; altitude does not remove sun/rain/road risks.
Mekong Delta
Southern Vietnam
Explore waterways and rural landscapes with a local operator. The regional/Can Tho guides describe an inhabited agricultural river network, not one uniform delta excursion. Pick a town and actual waterways, licensed boat/lifejackets, landing, hours and tide/flood/weather arrangements. No market activity, private orchard, fare, farm tour or homestay was verified. The USAID image is a working farmer, not the traveller's vessel or destination. Markets shift; do not promise an old floating scene at a fixed time. Obtain consent for land/homes/portraits, avoid exploitative stops and verify any meal separately. Promotion does not establish current navigable transfers.
Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City
Build a city walk around Ho Chi Minh City's historic buildings. One stop is the Saigon Central Post Office, where the photo shows the wooden telephone booths in 2008, not the whole building or today's interior arrangement. Look for the historic wall maps and check current visitor access before going. The guide describes Post Office maps, foyer and wooden booths but repeats identical generic 15,000 VND/hours for unrelated city attractions; do not treat that as current operator evidence. Do not repeat its debated architect attribution as settled. The 2008 booth photo is not today's room arrangement. Check current entrance, functioning services, barriers and accessibility. A free-looking counter is not every room/camera permission or a citywide pass. Plan for traffic/heat/theft and follow security/private boundaries. Other museums need their own verified fees, not the generic article figures.
Trang An landscape
Ninh Binh
Explore Trang An's limestone mountains and waterways near Ninh Binh. This February 2024 photo shows one waterside karst scene, not the whole complex or a cave interior. Boat routes visit different caves and temples, so compare the route before buying a ticket and check current weather, access and safety arrangements. Trang An and Tam Coc have different waterways, stops and departures. The tourism guide's three Trang An routes of roughly 2–4 hours are illustrative, not current approval, ticket or guaranteed film-set access. Choose actual route, ticket unit/passengers per boat, lifejackets, low-ceiling cave suitability, weather, closures and cancellation before paying. No current operator tariff was verified. UNESCO/calm-water wording is not secure navigation or condition clearance. The February 2024 photo and Waze departure-area/cave-not-route warning remain; one scene cannot show all caves, water levels or accessible boarding.
Traditional silk villages
Vietnam
Use the tourism guide to choose a craft-village visit. The government rural-tourism guide offers Van Phuc near Hanoi as one concrete silk lead, describing reeling, weaving, dyeing/finishing and retail streets. Its origin story includes legend, not established founder chronology. Demonstrations/November festival descriptions do not confirm an event date, private workshop or hands-on lesson. No current guide, demo, fabric price or entry fee was verified. Arrange access with artisans, ask before filming and keep clear of hot equipment/dyes. Check composition, provenance, care and return terms before buying. Villages are distinct destinations, not a nationwide craft ticket.
Water puppetry
Vietnam
Look for a performance of Vietnam's traditional art form. Thang Long's operator page describes Red River Delta/rice-field traditions, lacquered wooden puppets controlled under water and live accompaniment. A theatre show is not a village festival or the same performance in the historic photo. Current seat-map/price information is in images, not reliably readable price text, so no amount or seat is certified. Choose theatre/date/show/class, then confirm duration, languages/audio extras, seats, child rules, cancellation and official seller. General 365-day performance claims do not establish a slot. Backstage, handling and cameras need permission; guide/transfer packages are separate.
