Uganda travel guide

Research-only heritage and landscape leads under the cited US do-not-travel advisory. These cards are not present trip recommendations.

Kasubi Tombs heritage

Kampala

Research only while the US source advises do not travel. UNESCO's 2001 Kasubi inscription explains a sacred royal burial ensemble important to Buganda's spiritual life, kingship and traditional construction in poles, thatch, reeds and bark-cloth elements. Its recorded Danger List period is 2010–2023, not continuing today. Older text describing the 2010 fire and reconstruction needs is not a current opening or restoration-completion certificate. Respect living custodianship rather than treating tombs as ruins to explore. If future conditions support reconsideration, confirm exact visitor access, current conservation areas, dress, photography, guide/category/fee, opening and mobility arrangements directly with the custodian. No unrestricted interior, ceremony, private royal space, artifact handling or safe approach is promised. A heritage listing does not override national advice, gathering restrictions or local security; no present outing or transport plan is recommended.

Uganda Museum research

Kampala

Research only, not a present visit recommendation. The ministry museum service describes conserving and presenting Uganda's natural/cultural heritage and research collections. Its own visitor and home pages conflict: one says citizens free/international UGX 10000, another citizens-adult UGX 5000/foreign-adult USD 5, with differing student/child rules. Do not choose either as today's fee or infer free admission from one line. The visitor page posts Monday–Saturday 08:00–18:00/last 17:00, Sunday closed and holiday hours, but this is not proof that renovation is complete or every gallery operates. Recheck current opening, gallery/renovation status, fee/category/currency, official guide, permissions and mobility closer to any reconsidered travel. No exhibit, handling, photograph, school offer or archive service is guaranteed. Institutional mission and website images are not evidence of access or a booked collection visit under the current do-not-travel context.

Entebbe Botanical Gardens

Entebbe

Research only while national advice remains do not travel. A Prime Minister's Office report dated 24 January 2024 says Entebbe's gardens were established in 1898 and transferred from the agriculture ministry to tourism, with research and conservation meant to continue alongside tourism. An upgrade directive is not proof that works are complete, paths safe or every plant collection available. Use this history to understand a managed botanical landscape rather than an unrestricted lakeside park. If future conditions support reconsideration, confirm current custodian, opening, total fee/category, maintained paths, guide permissions, accessibility, weather and security directly. No monkey/bird sighting, feeding, plant collection, private research access or film-location claim is promised. Keep to authorised land paths; no lake swim, improvised boat, shore scramble or wildlife approach is recommended. Historical management details require checking rather than relying on an old institution address.

Murchison Falls scenery

Northwestern Uganda

Research only, not an authorised safari or present trip encouragement. UWA describes Murchison Falls as the Victoria Nile constricted through a gorge before plunging into the river below, within a mosaic of savanna, woodland and river habitat. This helps explain the landscape; promotional wildlife lists and scenic river wording do not establish today's sightings or safe water. A waterfall viewpoint requires an authorised guide and current park/route clearance, not an unguided river approach. Recheck precise gate, road/trail condition, weather, wildlife restrictions, category/fees, guiding, mobility and current national/security/health advice before reconsidering dates. The expired July 2024–June 2026 tariff is not a current park quote. Boat and game-drive products are separate and not added. No swimming, bank scrambling, wildlife feeding, ranger availability or safe close-up is implied. A broad park description cannot settle a particular western-border or access restriction.

Bwindi gorilla research

Southwestern Uganda

Research only under the US do-not-travel advisory. UNESCO's 1994 Bwindi inscription describes an old montane forest with important biodiversity; a gorilla encounter is an individually permitted conservation activity, not guaranteed wildlife viewing. UWA's 26 February 2026 letter announces low-season April/May/November foreign-nonresident gorilla permits USD 600(foreign-resident 500), nonreschedulable, and a separate 1 January 2027 foreign-nonresident tracking rate USD 800. These are dated/category-specific notices, not current availability, complete safari totals or a permit offer; the expired 2024–2026 tariff is not used as current. The letter says unpaid seven-day reservations ended 1 March 2026 and full payment secures permits, which is not permission to spend. Confirm current official rules, exact sector/guide, age and illness restrictions, route/security, fitness, exclusions, cancellation and evacuation cover closer to any reconsideration. No habituation permit, sighting, contact with gorillas or safe trek is promised.

Kibale forest research

Near Fort Portal

Research only, not an invitation to track now. UWA explains Kibale's forest habitat and its long-running habituated chimpanzee communities; habituation for research/visitation does not make animals tame or sightings certain. Its 26 February 2026 letter announces April/May/November low-season foreign-nonresident chimpanzee tracking USD 200(foreign-resident 150), nonreschedulable, and separate 1 January 2027 Kibale tracking foreign-nonresident USD 300. These dated/category-specific figures are not a current total, booked permit or blanket forest admission; older 2024–2026 tariffs have expired. The letter ends unpaid seven-day reservation windows from 1 March 2026 in favour of full payment, not a free hold or spending authority. Confirm current programme, fees/inclusions, age/health rules, exact guide/route, mobility, illness exclusion, cancellation, security and rescue/insurance before reconsideration. Tracking and habituation are separate products. No contact, feeding, animal sighting, safe route or extended day visit is promised.

Lake Bunyonyi landscapes

Near Kabale

Research only while national advice says do not travel. The Lake Bunyonyi regional guide places it near Kabale and describes a lake-and-island landscape useful for understanding the highland setting. A scenic description and tourism anecdotes do not establish water safety, public access to every viewpoint or a reliable transport return. Keep this existing card to land viewpoints, not swimming, canoeing, island access, a family visit or an improvised boat outing. No 'bilharzia-free' or other biological-safety claim is relied on. If future conditions support reconsideration, confirm an exact maintained public/host-permitted viewpoint, daylight land transport, local route/security/health advice, weather, mobility and any fee directly. The guide is not a current operator quote. No boat operator, lake crossing, wildlife encounter or safe shore approach is promised, and lake-boat accident warnings remain relevant rather than being cancelled by quiet-looking water.

Rwenzori mountain research

Western Uganda

Research only under do-not-travel advice, not a casual walk or summit recommendation. UNESCO's 1994 Rwenzori inscription describes high-altitude vegetation, giant heathers/lobelias, mountain water catchments and alpine landscapes contiguous with DRC's Virunga. Older snow/glacier descriptions are heritage context, not today's ice extent, weather, open summit or safe trail. The attempted UWA park page did not resolve, so no current operator access/rate is inferred from it. Reconsideration requires direct confirmation of exact route and western-border security/health restrictions, qualified operator, permits, altitude/fitness needs, equipment, season/weather, rescue communications and evacuation insurance, including exclusions under travel advisories. UNESCO status offers none of that clearance. The expired 2024–2026 tariff is not a current mountain quote. No summit, glacier traverse, border crossing, cave, informal guide or dependable rescue is included. This is a research lead, not an itinerary.
