Latvia travel guide
An eight-stop Latvia starter for Riga museums, distinct castle sites, coastal walks, art and concert-hall visits. Choose exact dates and ticket types; seasonal facilities, partial access and vehicle-entry rules need separate checks.
Riga Old Town and House of the Black Heads
Riga
Explore Riga's historic streets, then choose House of the Black Heads at Rātslaukums 7 as a separate indoor visit. The operator lists exhibition admission, paid individual audio guides and advance-booked guided tours as different choices. Audio devices are limited; check the language and availability you need. Its current visitor page lists October partial openings and closures without a year beside them, so confirm your actual date rather than assuming the normal daily schedule applies. A 2025 audio-guide announcement has fewer languages and a lower fee than the visitor page; use current ticket information, not the old article. This source does not establish a complete step-free route, so ask about the rooms and facilities you need. Waze searches the building, not permission to drive across the square, a timed ticket or available parking.
Sigulda New Castle and the Castle Quarter
Sigulda
Choose the New Castle and craft workshops in Sigulda's Castle Quarter at Pils iela 16, then check the medieval Livonian Order Castle separately. Latvia's tourism board describes the New Castle's nineteenth-century exterior, twentieth-century interiors and workshops for textiles, paper, leather, jewellery and other crafts. A workshop listing does not mean every studio is open or includes a class on your date; reserve the specific activity and check admission or materials charges. The Mapeirons accessibility guide lists wheelchair access to the quarter and a lift to the medieval castle's Northern tower, but that older listing is not a live lift-status check or certification of every room. Ask staff about your exact route. Waze searches the quarter, not Turaida Castle, every Sigulda attraction, a booked craft session or reserved parking.
Cēsis Castle with lanterns and partial access
Cēsis
Make Cēsis Castle a specific stop beside an Old Town walk. The tourism office describes lanterns issued at the visitor centre for the medieval Western Tower, while the Southern Tower multimedia display and garden craft activities are seasonal. Do not assume a summer programme runs in October. Guided castle or town tours need advance booking, and ticket sales finish before the site closes. The operator's accessibility page distinguishes wheelchair access to the medieval garden, workshops and kitchen garden from a lift in the History and Art Museum; it does not promise access to every medieval tower. Strollers should be left at the visitor centre for tower visits. Assisted drop-off at Pils laukums 9 must be arranged in advance. There is no dedicated guest car park beside the complex; check current town signs. Waze searches the visitor centre, not tower access or a parking entitlement.
Jūrmala coast with a separate vehicle-entry permit
Jūrmala
Choose a particular Jūrmala beach section and wooden-house neighbourhood before setting a coastal route. The tourism site's summer article describes boardwalks, seasonal toilets and rescue stations at Bulduri, Majori and Kauguri; it is not an October promise that every facility or lifeguard is operating. Check current water, weather and local instructions before any bathing, and treat spa visits and rentals as separate bookings. Driving into the signposted special-regime paid zone requires a vehicle-entry permit unless an exemption applies. The official 2026 notice lists a one-day permit and specific registration rules for some disability or medical exemptions; do not assume a foreign document automatically settles eligibility. This is not a general fee to walk on every beach, and parking terms remain separate. Waze searches Majori beach as an area anchor, not a paid entry permit or safe swimming clearance.
Daugavpils fortress and the Rothko Museum ticket choice
Daugavpils
Use Rothko Museum at Mihaila iela 3 as a named indoor stop within Daugavpils Fortress. Check whether your ticket covers the museum, Rothko originals gallery, Martinsons House or a combination; guided group visits must be booked in advance. The operator says online ticketing adds a service fee, while its own desk does not add that charge. Exhibitions can close during changeovers or exceptional events, and ticket sales end before closing. Wheelchairs and prams are permitted and visitors may use lifts unless otherwise announced; confirm the actual route or support you need. Large luggage, backpacks and umbrellas belong in storage and food is not allowed in exhibition halls. Photography of original Rothko works is prohibited unless specifically permitted, even when other rooms allow it. Waze searches the museum, not admission to every fortress building or a guaranteed parking space.
Ventspils beach after the 2026 swimming season
Ventspils
Plan an autumn coastal walk and a separately chosen Seaside Park stop rather than assuming the summer beach setup remains in place. The city announced that the 2026 Blue Flag swimming season ended on 15 September and seasonal equipment would be removed gradually. Summer boardwalks, showers, cabins and lifeguard equipment are not confirmed October facilities. The tourism accessibility page describes adapted changing cabins, tactile maps and wooden access at selected beach entrances, particularly number 6; ask which facilities remain available now and whether the route fits your needs. An accessible approach does not establish safe water conditions. Check weather, current signs and the exact park or museum's opening before adding a paid attraction. Waze searches Ventspils Beach, not a supervised bathing zone, confirmed open changing cabin or reserved parking.
Liepāja Great Amber tour and a separate Karosta visit
Liepāja
Choose Great Amber concert hall at Radio iela 8 for a building tour or select a dated concert with its own ticket. The hall's tour page lists public Latvian-language tours and advance-booked private tours in several languages; confirm the date, rooms available and access needs rather than treating the tour as a performance. Private visits are recommended to be arranged at least three days ahead. Karosta Prison is a separate historic stop across the city: its operator permits visits only with a guide, with seasonal tour times and mandatory advance reservations for larger groups. A guided history tour is different from overnight or role-play programmes, which need their own suitability and terms checks. The prison's dramatic marketing is not a safety or supernatural claim. Waze searches Great Amber, not a concert reservation, Karosta entrance or parking guarantee.
Kuldīga old streets, brick bridge and a chosen river walk
Kuldīga
Use Kuldīga's Old Brick Bridge and views of Ventas Rumba as a starting point for an old-town outing, then choose a walking route matched to your ability. Visit Kuldīga describes a seven-kilometre circular health route with rural paths, gravel, boardwalks, asphalt and cobbles; it is different from the shorter Pārventa trail in the regional guide. That shorter route still has stairs, terrain and slopes, limiting wheelchair and stroller access. An easy grade does not mean step-free or dry underfoot. The tourism pages disagree on the bridge's construction year, so no historical date is asserted here. Follow signed paths, respect the Venta Valley nature reserve and keep river viewpoints separate from swimming or walking across the waterfall. Waze searches the brick bridge, not a verified accessible trailhead, reserved parking or safe river crossing.
