Brunei travel guide

Eight heritage and nature leads across Bandar, Muara, Tutong, Temburong and Seria. Choose a district first; rainforest outings, water-village boats and museum visits need separate current arrangements.

Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque

Bandar Seri Begawan

Choose the mosque's architecture and landscaped exterior first, then ask about permitted non-worship visits separately. Official tourism describes the mosque completed in 1958 and named for Brunei's 28th Sultan, with a golden dome, marble columns, stained glass and a lagoon-side replica royal barge. Read the building as an active place of worship rather than an unrestricted photo set. Confirm current visiting windows around prayers, modest dress, footwear and photography rules with staff. The lagoon and barge are not a boating invitation. No interior admission, religious service access or opening time is promised by this card.

Royal Regalia Museum

Bandar Seri Begawan

Choose the Royal Regalia Museum for the monarchy's ceremonial objects and public presentation of royal history. Official tourism describes heirlooms, symbolic weapons and shields, Silver and Golden Jubilee exhibits and the golden chariot used in the 1992 Silver Jubilee procession. That is a different visit from a palace or another museum elsewhere in Bandar. The tourism listing marks Friday closed; recheck current hours, last entry, ticket scope, footwear and photography rules before going. A listed collection does not establish every gallery is open or that a guided tour is included. No palace admission or ceremonial event access is proposed.

Kampong Ayer heritage

Bandar Seri Begawan

Read Kampong Ayer as a living riverside community of stilt houses, wooden paths and bridges, not an open museum whose homes may be entered freely. Official tourism suggests the Cultural and Tourism Gallery for context on the water village's history, alongside an appropriately arranged boat or walking visit. Confirm the gallery's current operation and which paths are permitted and maintained. Ask before photographing people or entering homes. FCDO says to check adequate life jackets for every passenger, including children, and keep hands inside boats because river crocodiles may be present. No boat departure, safe boardwalk circuit or home visit is guaranteed.

Ulu Temburong rainforest

Temburong

Plan Ulu Temburong as a separate guided rainforest outing in the eastern district, not a city-park extension of Bandar. Official tourism describes extensive protected rainforest with lowland and mountain habitats and Borneo longhouse-community context. Choose a recognised operator and confirm the actual transfer, park permission, guide, route, weather and emergency support. A park opening-hours listing is not a confirmed tour or access to a canopy structure. FCDO advises against hiking alone, staying on paths and carrying food and water with closed-toe shoes. Wildlife sightings, community visits, waterfall swims and canopy access are not included or guaranteed.

Muara coastal landscapes

Muara

Choose a land-based coastal break at Muara Beach rather than assume every shore activity is suitable. Official tourism describes a sandy beach with picnic facilities, washrooms, kiosks and a playground, and advertises weekend food stalls. Treat facilities and stall operation as things to confirm for the day, not guaranteed services. Check weather, maintained paths, local closures and crocodile warnings before choosing where to walk. FCDO reports crocodiles seen on beaches as well as attacks at riverbanks and advises staying away from the water's edge. No swimming, fishing, water-sports booking or safe shore-edge route is supplied.

Tutong town heritage

Tutong

Use Tutong town as a starting point for district history rather than assume the old administrative building is an operating museum. The city guide identifies an old wooden building formerly used for the district office and court, but gives no current interior visitor arrangements. Official tourism places Tutong within an agricultural and culturally varied district and identifies examples of Kedayan and Dusun houses at Sungai Basong Recreational Park. Those are separate places, not a shared ticket or scheduled demonstration. Confirm permitted exterior viewing, current park access and a safe daytime route locally. Private homes and working offices are not visitor interiors.

Tasek Merimbun landscapes

Tutong district

Choose Tasek Merimbun for wetland and conservation interpretation, with access agreed before travelling into Tutong district. Official tourism describes Brunei's largest natural lake, its distinctive blackwater, an ASEAN Heritage Park, surrounding rainforest, boardwalk paths and Dusun cultural displays. A named trail or display on a tourism page does not establish today's condition, a guided outing or a boat service. Confirm permitted routes, maintained boardwalks, guide arrangements, weather and the current visitor programme. Follow wildlife and crocodile warnings and keep away from water edges. No bird sighting, boat cruise, swimming or complete accessible circuit is guaranteed.

Seria industrial heritage

Seria

Use Seria's Billionth Barrel Monument to connect the landscape with Brunei's oil-production history. Official tourism places the monument along the beach and describes it as commemorating the billionth barrel, with offshore oil rigs visible in the distance. The viewpoint is distinct from access to wells, rigs or operating industrial land. Choose permitted public areas and check local photography restrictions, weather and coastal warnings. Any energy museum or education-centre visit needs its own current opening and admission check; no museum ticket or industrial tour is included here. The coastal setting is not a swimming recommendation.
