Belgium travel guide
An eight-city Belgium starter for historic streets, art, canals and hilltop heritage. Choose a base first; museum slots, restoration displays, tower stairs and citadel activities need separate checks.
Brussels Grand-Place and City Museum choice
Brussels
Start with the Grand-Place exterior, then choose the Brussels City Museum in the King's House as a separate interior visit. The museum calls its own neo-Gothic building a key work in its collection and recommends booking individual visits. There is no lift: the entrance and upper floors are reached by stairs. Its published renovation notice lists a complete closure from 3 January to 2 March 2027, followed by a reduced ground-floor and first-floor display; check the notice against your travel date rather than assuming every floor is open. Other museums and Town Hall visits have their own admission. Waze searches the City Museum, not a parking space or permission to drive onto the square.
Antwerp old streets and separate KMSKA visit
Antwerp
Combine a city walk with a separately planned Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp visit at Leopold de Waelplaats, rather than treating all Antwerp art sites as one ticket. KMSKA asks visitors to book a time slot in advance; on-site ticket machines take cards only. Its access page describes a ground-level entrance and lifts to all levels, while the monumental staircase itself is not wheelchair accessible. Check the current collection, exhibitions and ticket scope before choosing. Most walk-in tours are in Dutch, so confirm language if that matters. Waze searches KMSKA, not the cathedral, another artist's house, a reserved slot or guaranteed parking.
Bruges canal-side streets and optional boat loop
Bruges
Keep the historic-centre walk separate from a canal boat trip. The tourism board describes a half-hour loop from one of five jetties, returning to the same point without stops: this is not hop-on hop-off transport. Individual tickets are bought at the jetty rather than reserved online, and busy periods can mean a wait. Weather can change or stop sailing; boats are uncovered. Neither boats nor embarkation points are wheelchair accessible, with stairs down to water level, so confirm suitability before choosing. Museum interiors and tower climbs have their own tickets. Waze searches Rozenhoedkaai as an area reference, not a boat reservation or verified boarding entrance.
Ghent canals and booked Altarpiece visit
Ghent
Choose a canal-side city walk, then book Saint Bavo's Cathedral's Ghent Altarpiece visit separately. The operator distinguishes its standard, children's and detail-focused augmented-reality tours from an Altarpiece-only option, with a selected time slot. Check the exact ticket scope, language and access rather than assuming a cathedral walk includes the visitor experience. The booking page carries a restoration notice explaining that seven panels are replaced by high-quality photographs during work; check which originals are currently displayed, and do not treat its expected completion as a guarantee. MSK's restoration viewing is a separate museum plan. Waze searches Saint Bavo's Cathedral, not a booked slot, canal cruise or unrestricted old-town driving route.
Leuven university library and separate tower climb
Leuven
Build a university-city walk, then choose the University Library on Ladeuzeplein. KU Leuven says its day ticket covers the library and Library Tower, but these are different physical experiences. On weekdays visitors may admire the Great Reading Room from the central aisle, not wander among working students; wider visitor access is described for weekends and public holidays. The tower has a history exhibition and a balcony reached after 289 steps, so check mobility suitability rather than assuming library access makes the climb step-free. Confirm current opening, tickets and tour availability. Waze searches the library, not access to every university building or a reserved parking space.
Liege riverfront and optional Bueren stairs
Liège
Choose a riverside or historic-centre walk, then decide whether the Montagne de Bueren staircase fits your route and mobility. The tourism board describes 374 steps linking the city centre towards the citadel area and asks visitors to preserve the site's quiet. A riverfront stroll is a different plan from this steep climb. La Boverie's fine-art collection and temporary exhibitions are separate museum visits, with their own current admission and display checks. A view of the Meuse is not swimming permission or a cruise booking. Waze searches the foot of Montagne de Bueren as an arrival reference, not a stair-driving route, hill outing or museum ticket.
Mechelen cathedral district and St Rumbold tower
Mechelen
Walk around the cathedral district, then choose St Rumbold's Tower as a separate climb. The tourism board describes 538 steps through tower rooms to the skywalk and says the tower is not wheelchair accessible; it recommends against climbing for people who have difficulty walking. A virtual visit is offered through the tourism office, with tablet-based tower experiences at reception. Check current admission and weather suitability, and book a guided climb separately if wanted. Cathedral worship and other city museums have their own access. Waze searches the tower, not a climb ticket, step-free ascent or permission to drive the surrounding pedestrian streets.
Namur citadel park and separate underground visit
Namur
Distinguish the citadel's public outdoor park from the paid Terra Nova Visitor Centre, guided underground tour and tourist train. The operator says the Museum Pass covers the visitor centre, not every activity; cable-car tickets are separate. Underground tours depart at Terra Nova on Route Merveilleuse 64 and have limited capacity. Its English page gives conflicting online-booking cutoffs, so confirm the live booking calendar rather than relying on either line. Online tickets are non-refundable if you cancel. The visitor centre is described as accessible, but underground mobility assistance needs separate arrangements and strollers cannot follow that tour. Waze searches Terra Nova, not the lower cable-car station, an underground reservation or guaranteed parking.
