Albania travel guide
An eight-stop Albania starter for city walks, living UNESCO towns, ancient remains and chosen museums. Keep Dajti and Morava as separate outings: cable-car access, rural roads, individual interiors and return transport need their own checks.
Tirana city walk and a separately checked Dajti ride
Tirana
Start around Skanderbeg Square with the Et'hem Bey Mosque and Clock Tower, then choose the New Bazaar or Blloku for a second city area. A public square does not establish mosque visitor access: check worship, dress and photography rules. Dajti is a separate outing with a lower cable-car station, not the end of this walk. The operator says tickets are bought at that station, not through third parties; one-way, return and activity combinations are different products. Check service notices, current prices and the last return before travelling. Its regular Tuesday closure has a public-holiday exception. The operator says wheelchairs are not permitted on the cable car, so do not assume lift access means an accessible mountain visit. Avoid demonstrations. Waze searches the square, not the cable-car station.
Durrës amphitheatre, tower and separate museum entry
Durrës
Choose the Roman amphitheatre for ancient remains, then the Venetian Tower and Taulantia seafront for the port-city setting. The national tourism route lists the archaeological museum as another stop; it does not establish that the museum or every monument is open on your date or covered by one ticket. Check current restoration, opening, entry and which areas can be entered before arranging a guide. Ask about uneven ground, stairs and the actual visitor entrance. A seafront walk is not a checked beach or a promise of safe swimming. FCDO advises using licensed water-sports centres and checking safety equipment for any separate coastal activity. Keep valuables close in busy visitor areas. Waze searches the amphitheatre only.
Berat hillside neighbourhoods and a chosen icon museum
Berat
Compare Mangalem and Gorica before making the separate climb to the Kala citadel. UNESCO describes Berat's tiered hillside houses and a castle with Byzantine churches and Ottoman-era mosques, reflecting long religious coexistence. This is a living town, not an all-access museum: historic houses and religious buildings need individual permission. Choose the Onufri Iconographic Museum if you want an indoor icon collection, and check its ticket, opening and accessible route separately from the castle streets. Wear shoes suited to cobbles and slopes; ask about the amount of climbing rather than assuming the drive removes it. Gorica Bridge and the Osum riverside are separate orientation points, not evidence of safe river activities. Waze searches Berat Castle, not every neighbourhood or museum entrance.
Apollonia ruins and the museum beside the monastery
Fier
Navigate to Apollonia Archaeological Park rather than treating Fier city as the ancient-site entrance. The official archaeology route distinguishes outdoor monuments from the museum beside an Orthodox monastery dating to the eleventh century. Choose how much of the ruins and indoor collection you want, then confirm current admission, museum access, guided-visit language and permitted photography. A tourism itinerary is not proof that every monument is open or that one ticket covers every interior. Plan sun protection, water, surfaces and a return pickup; ask about step-free access before relying on it. Vlora and the coastal drive towards Saranda are additional journeys, not a beach included with Apollonia. Rural road conditions and night driving need separate checks. Waze searches the archaeological park.
Gjirokastër bazaar, stone houses and separate castle access
Gjirokastër
Walk a compact section of the historic bazaar and stone-house streets, then choose the castle or a museum house as a separate interior visit. UNESCO describes a citadel town with characteristic two-storey houses developed from the seventeenth century, alongside an eighteenth-century mosque and churches. Historic status does not mean occupied houses are public, or that their rooms and courtyards can be entered. Confirm opening, tickets, restoration, guide language and photography for the specific building you choose. Ask about steep streets, steps and wet-stone footing. Antigonea and Adrianopolis are separate archaeological outings outside this town walk, each needing transport and entry checks. Waze searches Gjirokastër Castle, not a walking circuit or a confirmed museum visit.
Korçë bazaar and a museum before a separate Morava outing
Korçë
Start with the Old Bazaar and central pedestrian area, then choose an indoor visit rather than trying to cover every museum. The official guide lists Medieval Art, Education, Bratko Oriental Art, Vangjush Mio and Gjon Mili photography as different collections. A city listing does not confirm that they share tickets, hours or access. Check the chosen museum's current rooms, opening and visitor rules; performances and festivals require dated programmes, not an annual description. Morava lies east of the city and is a separate mountain plan. Choose a specific route, local advice, weather, daylight and return transport before setting out; this card does not establish a marked trail. Voskopoja, Dardha and Prespa are additional outings. Waze searches the Old Bazaar only.
Krujë bazaar with separately chosen castle museums
Krujë
Browse the cobbled Old Bazaar for handicrafts and carpets, then decide between the Skanderbeg Museum and Ethnographic Museum within the castle area. The official guide connects the town to Skanderbeg's fifteenth-century resistance against the Ottoman Empire; the two museums offer different historical and material-culture visits. Castle-area access and bazaar browsing are not evidence of a combined museum ticket. Confirm each museum's opening, rooms, admission and guided-visit language, especially around restoration or holidays. Ask about cobbles, steps and the amount of uphill walking. Buying a craft does not include a workshop: arrange any demonstration separately. Sarisalltik Mountain and Qafë-Shtamë are different outings needing route and weather checks. Waze searches Kruja Castle.
Shkodër Rozafa views and Marubi photography as separate stops
Shkodër
Choose Rozafa Castle's hilltop lake-and-river setting, Marubi's city museum, or time for both. Marubi's permanent exhibition follows three generations through a photographic studio, darkroom and archive, so it is more than a generic gallery stop. Its visitor page says reception payment is cash in Albanian lek; verify current admission and any temporary exhibition before going. The museum FAQ says the entrance staircase has no ramp, although staff can assist and there is an interior lift: arrange assistance rather than promising step-free entry. Rozafa's approach, tickets and surfaces need separate checks. Theth, Vermosh and lake boats are separate journeys, not included in a city visit; check routes and conditions directly. Waze searches Rozafa, not Marubi's entrance.
